Mental Retardation
Mental retardation, sometimes known as “intellectual impairment,” is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects an individual’s intellectual abilities and adaptive functioning. This disorder affects about 2% to 3% of the population.
Mental retardation is not a sickness in and of itself, although it might be the outcome of another illness. However, in the vast majority of cases, the aetiology remains unknown. Familial, genetic diseases, intrauterine infections, maternal alcoholism, metal poisoning, accidents, starvation, hypothyroidism, and iodine shortage are some of the other known causes.
